Robot Hobos...

There are an unbelievable amount of people that are homeless.  We never know how they end up as homeless, but seeing them on the street, it makes me sad.  But when I read an article like, Professional Beggars.... , I feel really abused and question myself, " is that person REALLY homeless... 85%  huuuuhh?"

You all might be thinking, what does that have to do with this cute robot, so let me tell you.  First, I'll explain what that invention is.  That white spherical robot is called Don-8r, it is a robot that goes out asking for donations and collecting change from people.  This robot is used to raise money for charity.

These robots are like professional solicitors, they are programed with extreme politeness, persistence, and performance.  They compete with homeless, and street performers.  These robots are like professional beggars, because they perform well and tell the sappiest stories to make the audience feel bad, which also makes them very effective.  They are not like kids or regular solicitors, because they can be shameless and not worry about being rejected or ignored.

NEEDLES IN THE SIZE OF Mosquitos?

Mosquito like Needle
Ever find yourself scratching at night, because I sure do; even though, I had taken a shower right before. It's because of those annoying mosquitoes!!  Man, I hate mosquitoes!  I hate how they hover over my ears at night, like a wolf stalking its prey.  I hate how I can't find it at night; even though, I heard it flying around my ear like only seconds before I turn on the light.  I really hate how uncontrollably itchy the bitten part becomes.

If I had to name one good thing about mosquitoes, it would be this: at least you can’t feel it when they bite. The reason most people can’t feel the mosquito’s actual bite is that mosquitoes cover their mouths with their saliva, which has the effects of an anesthetic, before biting down and they also bite with a three-prong approach.

This one redeeming quality has now been capitalized by students in Kansai College located in Osaka, which is the breakthrough on how to mimic the mosquito's bite in the needles used by doctors and nurses!  This is amazing, because who here does not fear needles.  Needles are like one of the top 10 fears that humans have.  They are also one of the most early fears that children manifest. But with this invention, needles will not be fearful anymore.  The reason we won't be able to feel the needle is because of a few reason.  The first is due to the structure of the needle, called serrated, which is described as saw-like.  A serrated, saw-tooth, needle is less painful, because it covers more surface area, lessening the pain.  Compared to a conventional needle, which is sharp and pierces at a specific cell.  The second reason is because it is not just one needle, but takes on the form of a mosquito's form and applies the Three-pronged approach.  The last reason is due to the high speed vibrating that is given off by the needles as it is applied into the skin.  The vibration will ease the needle in causing less pain.  I've been bitten countless times by mosquitoes, awaken or knocked out in dreams, but I've never noticed I got bitten until I started scratching.  But with this, it will make the needling process seem like nothing but a fly.

I’m happy about this breakthrough in needling because I've been to the hospital many times with my grandparents.  Each time they end up in the ER, the first couple procedures the nurses and doctors tend to do, was look for a vein to apply Intravenous( or I.V.) therapy on.  My grandparents have fragile and shrunken veins, and it is not easy to stick a needle in with one try.  It is also painful to keep having the needling process repeated.  But with this new invention of mosquito like needles, I can believe that the trips to the doctors will become less painful for the both of us.  I would also not have to fear needles, knowing something as painless as this would be going into my body in the future.

Play-Doh that can hold up a Bridge ?

Plastic like Steel
As a kid, I loved playing with Play-Doh.  My imagination would run wild and I would create amazing looking helicopters or airplanes, sometimes creatures.  At Yale, they were able to develop a metal alloy that molds as efficiently and quickly like plastic.  The material is known as BMGs, bulk metallic glasses.  Besides material, the method of molding is what makes it so flexible.  They method is called Blow-Mold, which is then subgroup into extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, and stretch blow molding.  In extrusion blow molding, the material is melted and poured into a parison, a hollow tube, and air is forced into the parison making it into the shape of the tube.  For the injection blow mold method, where material is melted onto a rod, called a preform, then placed inside another machine which blows the cooling material into the desired shape.  In the stretch blow molding, it uses a preform(obtained from injection mold), places it inside the desired shape and high pressured air is pushed in, making the complete form. *Source*

With this new discovery, created by scientists in Yale University, production of strong metals will become more cost efficient and shapes would be easier to make.  This is the ideal invention that our future looks to, being able to produce great durability, while paying only a faction of the cost.  All appliances, parts, structures, and toys would become much more affordable.  This type of material would be best used for restructuring buildings or mending buildings, since it can be easily molded, while producing a reliable sturdiness.  However, I don't think it can be used for building skyscrapers or buildings, because it doesn't sound sturdy knowing that it can be easily manipulated.  It can also become easy targets for terrorists and easily be put as a hostage.

Cure to Scars?

Skin-cell Spray Gun

Skin gun a product of studying stem-cells.  It is a gun that takes the skin cells around the 2nd degree burned area and recover its skin.  This invention is being used a lot in battle, because there are many burn victims from suicide bombing and bombing in general.

I think this is a great invention, because everyone wouldn't be afraid of the fire or the phrase " If you can't stand the fire, get out of the kitchen", haha, just kidding.  But seriously though, people would not have to worry about getting burned by the stove or worry about scars or scabs forming.

Besides being used for burns, I think this invention is a great start for the cure of acne scars.  Being a person that has been suffering from acne for 6 years now, I believe that this gun could be the invention that can help everyone recover from their acne scars and have a clear face again.

With the invention of Skin-gun, it might even take some of the business from plastic surgeons.  People wouldn't have to remodel their faces due to the scars, because all they have to do is just rebuild their skin.  This type of treatment is all natural too, because it is using the skin that is around you and just stimulating the area to grow more of what you have.

In addition to acne-scar treatment, it can be used on people that have eczema.  Eczema is when the skin is easily irritated and inflamed.  When people scratch their skin, they can easily cause scars as well as have different shades of skin color.  I think this gun will be very useful for people that are suffering from that disease.

Looney Inventions

Finding new invention is hard, but imagination is endless. I thought I would take a break from all the serious inventions and talk about something else.  The link below illustrates thirteen inventions that could become possible in year 3000 if not sooner.

The three funniest ones to me has to be: the toaster, that gives you a tan, save fuel, where a circus of people ride on a unicycle, and the parlor visit, where they just stamp your face with make-up.  These things aren’t new inventions, since it’s already possible to make them now.  They are also impractical, because 1) is just an over-sized toaster that resembles a tanning booth, 2) that only works in a circus because not everyone is that acrobatic and not everyone has that strength to support that weight, 3) there is no stamp that is a all-fit-in-one.

The three most practical devices that I would buy would be the shaving machine, the chair pants, and that underwater vehicle.  I don’t know how close of a shave that machine can give, but it sure beats having to look in the mirror and do it myself.

You all might think the chair pant is stupid, but how nice would it be if you’re like 70 years old or older.  You would die for a chair at that age and the wall can be like your backrest.  One thing that might be uncomfortable about this device is the point of interaction of the chair to your buttock.  Maybe they’ll develop like a panel to cover your butt before the poles come out and you won’t ever have to fear people touching your butt anymore cause you got like a plate over it.

I don’t know about you all, but going into the deep-sea and seeing the sky from below is one of my biggest sights I want to see.  And having a mobile submarine is cool too.  You won’t ever have to worry about a lake stopping you from your destination.

The three most stupid inventions on that list has to be the sleeping exercising robot, athletes being carried while they play and the helicopter hat.

Sleep is suppose to be a relaxing time, not a time for some robot to disturb you in.  The machine would be fair from practical.  Not only would the machine prevent you from sleeping, but the movements from the robot would increase your heart rate, it would only make you feel like your having a nightmare with so much blood pumping through you.

If we were in the year 3000, I would expect robots to be playing sports against humans more than a human carrying another human to play a sport.  It’s so ridiculous.

As for the helicopter hat, just looking at the picture is enough said.

MAGMA THE NEW ELECTRICITY

A new source of power is emerging.  Whenever we hear of magma, we think of volcanoes exploding.  Except now we are putting that extremely hot melting mess into good use.  Scientists in Iceland are converting this heated mess into a geothermal energy.  It is said that we use the steam from the magma to generate electricity.

I’m really glad that scientists are making use of magma, because this energy is wasted and evaporated into the air unattended.  With this new invention, we will be using more of what Mother Nature gives to us.  This type of energy is natural, because we are just using the steam from a natural cause of earth.

With the advancement of using magma, scientist might be able to harness new technology that will be able to withstand great heat.  When that happens, we might be able to explore further into the earth’s core, as well as, get closer to the sun’s surface.

Copyrighted by Stark Enterprises? Nooo.....

My first post will be about a video that I saw in my ISYS 565 class.
Watch above or Click here -> TED-The Sixth Sense

The first piece of technology that I want to share is a prototype invention called TED-The Sixth Sense, which can be seen around Pattie Mae’s neck in the video link.  The device is like an over-sized ruler.  This device is capable of doing all the tasks a smart phone can do and much more.  The phone is dynamic and gives the user bigger freedom, by implementing a technology that allows hand manipulations over a projected area.  With this technology, we would be able to multi-task easier and would not have to resort to holding a phone in one hand while tending to another issue.

You all might be wondering what is Stark Enterprises, so let me tell you.  It is a company that known for specializing in environmental home design consulting, environmental service solutions, GIS services, and property rentals.  But I'm really referring to the Marvel Comic one, found in the ever so popular Iron Man comic.  Watching the movie inspired me to write about this post, because I can still remember Tony Stark, main character in the movie, pulling out a projection screen from thin air and using it as if it was a tablet.  It allowed him to surf the internet, write documents, watch videos, and it is also powerful enough to process and hack into government systems.  Seeing the device in the movie, I felt my jaw drop.  And seeing this video about TED made me feel that the invention that Tony Stark has, is but only a decade away.

If this invention were to be placed on the market, I'm pretty sure I would be 50 if not 60.  But I really do hope this type of invention surface soon.  It would make space become more efficient and make the air our computer screen.

Introduction

Hello Readers!

My name is Stephen Ma and I am a junior at SFSU.  I am an E-commerce major, doubling in Information Systems.  I'm interested in technology, so I'll be posting articles about it.  Technology is always improving, so I hope my readers would be well informed about new inventions and ideas that are coming out.

As for myself, I hope blogging will improve my English writing ability, as well as, help me develop a deeper interest in reading.  I hope to learn a lot this semester, please endure my writing style^_^, comments are appreciated.
